FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022: 100 Days to Go
Only 100 days remain till Qatar hosts the FIFA World Cup.
Between 20 November and 18 December, eight cutting-edge stadiums will host 64 matches as Qatar welcomes the world's top international teams for the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East and the Arab world.
This year's FIFA World Cup, the 22nd in the tournament's historic history, will be momentous for Qatar and the whole region. This tournament will leave a legacy that will serve as a model for future mega-event hosts.
The final at Lusail Stadium on Qatar National Day will be the climax of a 12-year journey for H.E. Hassan Al Thawadi, Secretary General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC), who obtained the hosting rights in 2010.
"We've gone such a long way in such a short period of time," Al Thawadi remarked. "Hosting the World Cup has expedited our magnificent country's growth, in accordance with Qatar's National Vision 2030." We have created tremendous infrastructure, a world-class sports and events sector, and human and social programs that help Qataris and others all over the globe."
"From day one, we have emphasized that hosting the World Cup is about much more than football," Al Thawadi added. It is about motivating a generation and demonstrating what is possible to young people throughout Qatar and the Arab globe. Few of us imagined that Qatar would hold a tournament of this size but look where we are today."
Eng. Yasir Al Jamal has been involved in Qatar's preparations since the beginning. He has been instrumental in the implementation of tournament infrastructure, including the seven stadiums that the country has built from the ground up, as well as the rehabilitation of Khalifa International Stadium.
"Everyone at the SC, as well as our numerous stakeholders, should be very proud of the initiatives we worked so hard to deliver," Al Jamal added. "It's incredible to think that at the beginning of this journey, we only had a vision and ideas - today we have infrastructure and facilities that communities around the country use every day." We see the World Cup's impact making a difference in people's lives even before the big game."
Nasser Al Khater, CEO of FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 LLC, has also played a prominent role in tournament preparations since the bid. He says fans should expect a once-in-a-lifetime experience when they arrive in Qatar later this year.
"When football fans arrive in Qatar, they will feel our warm hospitality and our enthusiasm for the game," Al Khater added. "If you like football, here is the place to be - and because we're small, you'll be able to see more matches than ever before." Even away from the excitement on the field, there will be plenty to do, including tourist sites and a variety of entertainment alternatives. I invite everyone to get tickets and enjoy a World Cup unlike any other in history."
