Dubai Design Week 2024, the region’s premier celebration of design and creativity, is here to captivate art enthusiasts and design aficionados with a stunning lineup of exhibitions and art installations. Held annually, this event transforms Dubai into a vibrant hub where local and international talents come together to showcase cutting-edge ideas, design solutions, and artistic expressions. Here’s a rundown of the must-see exhibitions and art installations this year.

The UAE Designer Exhibition highlights the best of UAE-based designers, celebrating local talent across various disciplines. The exhibition is curated by Emirati designer Omar Al Gurg and features a dynamic collection of emerging talent that redefines comfort and functionality. Over 30 UAE-based designers have contributed to this exhibition. 

2. Freedom by Design

Freedom by Design is a compelling exhibition that explores the theme of women's empowerment. The exhibition is divided into three segments celebrating women's empowerment through design, creativity, and the pursuit of freedom. 

3. Reimagined: A Showcase of Creative Visions

Reimagined: A Showcase of Creative Visions is an exhibition that features works from 25 Visual Communication Design students from the College of Art and Design at the University of Sharjah. The exhibition features works reimagining the landscapes of Sharjah and works combining old designs with contemporary techniques. 

4. Creative Solutions Exhibition

The Creative Solutions Exhibition presents six projects from Ithra's Creative Solutions residency. The projects challenge our perception of reality by combining sensory elements with digital landscapes, creating an interactive experience. 

5. FiftyFifty

FiftyFifty is a travelling lettering exhibition featuring the theme of ‘Positive Synonyms’, the exhibition features over 20 scripts by 116 students from different parts of the world.

6. Wild Hues

Wild Hues is an outdoor installation tunnel that explores primary and secondary colors. It features mixed media, showing the fusion of Khaleeji and Western cultures. 

7. Material Witnesses and Narrating Lifeforms

Material Witnesses and Narrating Lifeforms explores placelessness and temporality through the lens of coral stone. The installation features a false coral stone wall that supports a miniature arcade, using coral replicas made from locally sourced beeswax embedded within the wall. Exposed to external weather conditions, the wax figures will quickly melt to mark the immediacy of the human relationship to land and sea. 

8. ReRoot

ReRoot is an art installation that reimagines emergency housing to serve the demand for sustainable shelter solutions for displaced populations. 

9. Coralis Lumina

Coralis Lumina is an enchanting installation that draws inspiration from underwater ecosystems, particularly coral reefs. The installation creates a captivating environment, which will engage visitors with its dynamic interplay of light and shadow.
