Emirates Airlines has announced a pay raise for its employees in Dubai and globally, so that they can adapt to the increased living costs and global inflation.
According to an Emirates Group letter, workers in Dubai will receive an increase in allowances for accommodation and transport, and 5 percent raise in their basic salaries starting from July 1st, and a 10 percent rise in the education support allowance effective from September.
The decision came in line with the increased costs of living, so the company stated that Emirates Airlines will increase the basic salaries of staff who are based abroad with changes to fixed allowances linked to local market conditions.
“These increases are a direct response to the rise in the cost of living and inflation, which we recognize has put pressure on you and your families,” the memo said.
The UAE experienced an inflation rate of 4.8% in 2022, but the Central Bank's Quarterly Economic Review for 2022 predicts a decrease to 3.2% in 2023 and further to 2.8% in 2024.
According to the International Monetary Fund, it is estimated that UAE inflation comes in comparison with the global inflation rate of around 8.7 percent in 2022. Global inflation will fall to 7 percent in 2023 and will reach 4.9 percent in 2024.
Following the airline's announcement of a record annual profit, it has allocated a bonus fund of Dh10.6 billion ($2.9 billion) to reward over 50,000 employees. As part of this move, employees were provided 24 weeks of pay with their May salary after the company reported a record annual profit.
