French fashion and fragrance giant Dior has chosen Ahmed Malek as its first ambassador from the Middle East.
According to a statement from Kim Jones, artistic director of menswear for the company, the Egyptian actor personifies the "spirit and singularity of Dior style" and would henceforth represent the company's "audacity and creativity" across the Middle East.
The latest connection between Dior and Egypt is the selection of Malek as its first regional men's ambassador. Jones decided to deliver his pre-fall 2023 collection at the base of the Giza Pyramids in December 2022.
Malek joins the illustrious list of world-class performers signed to Dior. It signed the K-pop group TXT in August and BTS member Jimin in January. Robert Pattinson, a Twilight and Batman actor, was named the face of the Dior Homme fragrance in 2013, and Johnny Depp, an actor, was chosen to represent the Dior Sauvage fragrance in 2015. Jude Law, a British actor, was appointed the brand's ambassador in 2008 and served in that capacity through 2012.
French jewelry company Cartier has named Malek as one of its regional ambassadors, which is their most recent appointment. He participated in a Cartier advertisement in June with fellow Egyptian Tara Emad, Tunisian-Egyptian actress Hend Sabry, and Tunisian actor Dhafer L'Abidine.
Cairo-born Malek, who recently starred in Netflix's The Swimmers, a movie based on the true story of Yusra and Sarah Mardini, two teenage sisters who fled war-torn Syria for Europe in the hopes of competing in the 2016 Rio Olympics, is enjoying a flourishing career both in Egypt and abroad.
He is well known in Egypt for his roles in the television series Outsider Bloodline and Zay Al Shams. Malek, who was chosen as one of the Toronto International Film Festival's Rising Stars in 2018, also had his first English-language acting role in The Furnace (2020).
Malek is widely regarded as one of the new generation of actors from the region who are having a global impact. He will next be seen in the BBC series Boiling Point.
