A Dubai government event aimed at providing guidance to individuals who overstay their visas had to end temporarily due to large crowds on the opening day.
The organizers are still in search of a new venue where the event will be hosted and they will announce it soon.
The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs in Dubai had planned a program called "A Home For All" which was set to take place at City Centre Deira. The program was scheduled to run for three days, starting on Saturday, from 10 am to 10 pm.
The aim of the program was to provide education for residents on visa rules and regulations, and legal advice, and inform them how they can remain in the UAE while seeking employment, as well as educate them on various strategies for finding jobs.
Authorities clarified that the event was not a visa amnesty, which has previously lured numerous individuals with expired residency documents. Nonetheless, the event had already reached its full capacity and was closed by 1 pm on the first day.
According to The National, some individuals stated that they had received false information from an unofficial video that was being shared online, which claimed that discounts were being provided on visa fines.
