Dubai has doubled the number of international visitors it received in 2022, to come in at 14.36 million, up from 7.28 million visitors in 2021, with a growth of 97 percent year on year.

This is an exceptional growth in visitation, which enables the city to exceed global and regional tourism recovery levels, compared with pre-pandemic numbers.

Visitors to Dubai in 2022 reached 86 percent of the pre-pandemic levels of 2019.

According to the latest data published by Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism (DET), average hotel occupancy in 2022 stood at 73 percent, compared with 67 percent a year prior.

Dubai's 2022 hotel occupancy figure is just short of the 75 percent occupancy in the pre-pandemic period of 2019.

"The exceptional growth in the inflow of visitors reflects Dubai's continued rise as one of the world's most connected cities and its determination to lead the world in hospitality infrastructure and service levels," Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Crown Prince of Dubai, said.

Helal Saeed Almarri, director-general of the DET, said: "While the global economy remains in a state of flux, Dubai has emerged as a clear leader in the tourism industry."
