Dubai's Road and Transport Authority (RTA) is set to revolutionize the city's transportation landscape with a major upgrade to the existing nol card system.
The Dhs350 million investment is earmarked for transforming the nol card-based ticketing system into a cutting-edge, account-based digital ticketing experience, aligning Dubai with global digital transformation standards.
The new digital payment system will function as a transport fare wallet, offering commuters a one-stop solution for route planning, booking, and pre-paying for trips. With an array of packages, including options for family or group tickets, the upgraded system is designed to cater to diverse user needs.
Smart payment methods through mobile devices and innovative features like facial recognition, driven by artificial intelligence, are set to enhance and streamline the user experience. Commuters will have easy access to critical account information, including balances, travel history, ticket pricing, and fare calculations.
Crucially, the new system prioritizes data security by linking all issued cards to individual customer accounts. This move ensures enhanced protection of personal data, providing users with a more convenient and secure means of managing their transport needs.
Having played a pivotal role in public transport since its introduction in 2009, the nol card is poised for a significant evolution. The RTA's visionary initiative, scheduled for implementation by the end of 2025, has been lauded by His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director-General and Chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of the RTA, as a pivotal step in advancing Dubai's public transport payment system.
This ambitious project aims to position Dubai at the forefront of digital innovation, creating a seamless and efficient public transport experience.
