Taxi fares in Dubai have gone up due to four straight months of rising petrol prices. The cost per kilometer has increased by 12 fils, bringing the new rate to Dh2.09 per kilometer.

Rising Fuel Costs

Petrol prices in the UAE have been climbing since February. The price of Special 95 petrol was Dh2.71 per liter in January and has now reached Dh3.22 per liter.

The fare increase affects only the fuel usage per kilometer, while the initial charge at the start of a taxi ride remains the same. For instance, a taxi ride from Al Barsha to Dubai World Trade Centre, a 25-kilometer journey, will now cost around Dh3 more than before.

Comparison to Previous Increases

The last major increase in taxi fares occurred in July 2022 due to high global oil prices. This time, oil prices are averaging between $83 and $87 per barrel, up from March's prices.

Public transportation costs for the Dubai Metro, Tram, and public buses remain stable.
