A Dubai resident recently faced an unexpected parking fee of AED 280 for leaving his car in a paid parking zone for six hours. The incident, shared on his Instagram stories, highlights potential issues in the city's parking fee system.
Confusion Over Charges
The resident parked his car at around 6 PM in a private paid parking area. He returned just after midnight, only to find the parking meter displaying a hefty AED 280 charge. He had initially calculated a fee of AED 30 for six hours, based on the displayed rates.
Crossing Midnight Leads to High Fees
The high fee resulted from crossing the midnight threshold, which the parking system interpreted as a full day of parking. The fee board, however, did not specify charges for overnight parking, leading to the resident's confusion and frustration.
Seeking Resolution
In an attempt to resolve the issue, the resident pressed the call button on the parking meter and spoke to an operator, who directed him to their call center. He contacted the call center the following morning and sent emails explaining the situation.
Management's Response
After a few days, the parking management responded, acknowledging the issue and assuring him that they were working on a resolution. They promised to issue a refund for the unexpected charge.
This incident serves as a reminder for drivers to be aware of potential hidden charges and for parking providers to ensure clear communication of all fees to avoid such situations in the future.
