Parents in the UAE are Worried About Rising Back-to-School Costs

Private schools in Dubai are able to increase school fees by up to 6 percent for the next academic year 2023/2024.

This decision only applies to schools that maintained or improved their annual inspection rating.

Schools that have dropped in performance, however, are not eligible for a fee increase.

The announcement comes after a three-year hiatus in tuition fees to back parents amid the negative repercussions of the pandemic, and this is the first time since 2019 that Dubai private schools are able to increase their fees.

School fees' hike is calculated based on the emirate's Educational Cost Index (ECI).

Schools that have maintained the same rating as the previous school year are eligible to raise their annual fees with a maximum cap of 3 percent.

Schools that improved their rating from "Very Good" to "Outstanding" can increase the fees by up to 4.5 percent, while schools that improved their rating from "Good" to "Very Good" are allowed to raise them by 5.25 percent.

Finally, schools that went from "Very Weak" to "Weak", "Weak" to "Acceptable", or "Acceptable" to "Good" are eligible to increase their fees by up to 6 percent.

The Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) has put together a fact sheet to see what fees schools will charge during the next academic year.
