Private schools in Dubai have been ranked sixth globally in terms of reading and literacy proficiency. According to the latest Progress in International Reading Literacy Study (PIRLS) assessment, which measures the reading and literacy abilities of fourth-grade students globally every five years, private schools in Dubai have achieved an impressive score of 566 points in the 2021 study.
This score surpasses the global average of 500 points, highlighting the remarkable performance of Dubai's private schools in fostering strong reading and literacy skills among their students.
Dubai schools have achieved a significant milestone by securing a place in the top 10 rankings for the first time in the latest assessment. The results reveal a remarkable improvement of 76 points since 2011, showcasing the dedication and efforts of Dubai's educational institutions in enhancing reading and literacy skills.
In the 2016 study, Dubai schools attained a score of 527, indicating progress over the years. Among the different school ratings, those showed Outstanding achieved a score of 631 points, while Very Good and Good schools scored scores of 588 and 564 points respectively.
"These results are significant not just because they exemplify the world-class teaching and learning happening across our schools every day," said Dr Abdulla Al Karam, KHDA director general.
