Dubai Police recently seized 1,780 bicycles and electric scooters in a major traffic safety campaign aimed at reducing accidents and improving public safety. The campaign, conducted in collaboration with Al Rifa’a Police Station, targeted improper use of these vehicles in non-designated areas, such as public roads and pedestrian pathways.

The crackdown resulted in the confiscation of 1,417 bicycles and 363 electric scooters, with additional fines issued for safety violations.

Safety Violations Highlighted

Authorities revealed that many riders ignored basic safety measures, endangering themselves and others. A total of 251 fines were issued for offenses such as:

  • Riding without helmets
  • Ignoring traffic signals
  • Lacking essential safety gear, including reflective clothing and lights

Key Safety Measures for Riders

Dubai Police reminded the public of essential safety practices for bike and scooter users:

  • Use designated bike lanes only.
  • Avoid jogging and walking paths.
  • Never carry passengers on electric scooters.
  • Don’t overload your bike or scooter.
  • Ensure proper front and rear lighting is installed.
  • Always wear a helmet and reflective vest.
  • Walk your bike across pedestrian crossings.
  • Maintain a safe distance from vehicles and pedestrians.
  • Avoid unauthorized modifications to your vehicle.
  • Refrain from towing or being towed by other vehicles.
  • Use rear and side lights, especially at night or during poor weather conditions.

Public Collaboration Encouraged

Dubai Police urged residents to report unsafe practices through the ‘Police Eye’ feature on the Dubai Police app or by calling the ‘We Are All Police’ hotline at 901.

By cracking down on unsafe behavior and emphasizing proper practices, the authorities aim to make Dubai’s streets safer for everyone.
