Dubai Police has introduced 13 inspection checkpoints across the emirate to enhance road safety and crack down on unsafe driving practices. These new measures aim to curb speeding, reckless driving, and illegal vehicle modifications that compromise the safety of other road users.

Recent Enforcement Actions

Just recently, Dubai Police seized 23 vehicles and three motorbikes in Al Khawaneej for creating disturbances due to unauthorized modifications. These modifications often result in excessive noise and unsafe driving conditions, underscoring the need for stricter enforcement.

Common Violations to Watch Out For

With the new checkpoints in place, drivers should be aware of violations that could lead to hefty fines and penalties:

  • No Number Plates: Driving without plates incurs a Dhs3,000 fine and 23 black points.
  • Excessive Window Tinting: Tinting beyond the legal limit costs Dhs1,500.
  • Reckless Driving: Driving in a way that endangers others can lead to a Dhs3,000 fine and your license being blocked for a year.

Zero Tolerance for DUI

The UAE maintains a zero-tolerance policy for driving under the influence of alcohol. Unlike some countries that allow minimal alcohol levels in the bloodstream, any amount is prohibited in the UAE. Violators face severe consequences, including jail time, regardless of how much they exceed the limit.

In October 2024, new federal decree traffic laws were announced, with stricter penalties set to take effect in March 2025. These include fines of up to Dhs100,000 for certain violations, emphasizing the UAE's commitment to road safety.

Distracted Driving: No Excuses

Another focus of Dubai Police is distracted driving, particularly using mobile phones while behind the wheel. Under updated traffic laws, drivers caught using their phones risk having their vehicles impounded for up to 30 days.

The current federal traffic law imposes an Dhs800 fine and four black points for mobile phone use or any form of distraction while driving. However, the added vehicle impoundment underscores the seriousness of this offense.

Stay Safe, Stay Compliant

These updated rules and checkpoints reflect Dubai Police’s dedication to ensuring the safety of all road users. By following traffic laws, avoiding illegal modifications, and staying focused on the road, drivers can help create a safer driving environment for everyone in the city.
