The Dubai Police have apprehended a group of beggars who committed crimes using vehicles with number plates from neighboring countries. In order to target the people living there, the suspects would install a number plate from the neighboring country and pretend to be compatriots.
The police said on Monday that they used women and children to arouse sympathy. It wasn't immediately apparent how the suspects got their hands on the license plates.
The General Department of Criminal Investigations' director, Major-General Jamal Salem Al Jallaf, claimed that beggars frequently harass those who are close to mosques, clinics, hospitals, stores, and roads. He issued a warning to the community about the lies that beggars make up to "manipulate people".
Five suspects and three recovered vehicles were seen in the photograph issued by the police. A senior officer issued a warning to everyone about "deceptive tactics used by beggars to exploit people's emotions and earn money illegally".
Al Jallaf also emphasized the value of reporting beggars by dialing 901 or using the Dubai Police app, as well as the importance to donate exclusively to authorized organizations.
