The Dubai 2040 Vision Explained

Dubai's Metro is set for a significant upgrade, with plans to more than double its stations by 2040. This ambitious expansion is part of Dubai's major public transport development strategy, enhancing connectivity and commuting experiences across the city.

Currently, Dubai boasts 64 Metro stations spread over 84 square kilometers. However, by 2030, the number of stations is expected to rise to 96, covering 140 square kilometers. By 2040, the city aims to reach 140 stations over 228 square kilometers, significantly improving access and transit options for residents and visitors alike.

This Metro expansion project aligns with Dubai's '20-minute city' vision, aiming to ensure that key services and facilities are within a 20-minute reach for residents. The plan also targets increasing public transport usage to 45% and reducing carbon emissions to 16 tonnes per capita. To support this vision, the project will enhance public spaces, add more shaded areas, and encourage walking.

Additionally, the project will boost residential, commercial, office, and service spaces near Metro stations, fostering urban growth and convenience.

While specific locations for all new stations have not been disclosed, some details have emerged. The proposed Blue Line will feature 14 stations, including three interchange points with the Red and Green lines. This line will serve key areas such as Marsa Dubai Creek, Festival City, International City, Al Rashidiya, Al Warqa, Mirdif, Silicon Oasis, and Academic City. The expansion aims to accommodate 320,000 additional daily passengers, enhancing the city's transit efficiency.

Stay tuned for more updates as Dubai continues to transform its public transportation landscape, making commuting more convenient and sustainable for everyone.
