Air traffic at Dubai International Airport (DXB) almost reached pre-pandemic levels, with passenger numbers exceeding 21.2 million in the first quarter of 2023.
Passenger traffic in the airport increased by 55.8 percent in the first three months of the year, compared with the first quarter of 2022, reaching 100,840.
March was the busiest month in the first quarter, with 7.3 million passengers, the highest monthly traffic since January 2020.
The airport also saw a 23 percent increase in aircraft movements during the first three months of the year, compared with the same period last year.
DXB's busiest destinations during the first quarter of the year were India, Saudi Arabia, the UK, and Pakistan, while the list of top cities by passenger numbers was led by London, Mumbai, Jeddah, and Riyadh.
"DXB's performance in the first quarter has exceeded our expectations and reflects the strong growth in demand that we are continuing to see across our key markets," said Paul Griffiths, CEO of Dubai Airports.
Moreover, DXB ranked the world's busiest international airport in the world in April by seats, according to statistics from travel data provider Official Airline Guide.
DXB is currently connected to 234 destinations across 99 countries.
