Dubai Imposes Strict Penalties for Government Logo Misuse

A new law regulating the use of Dubai’s government and emirate logos is set to take effect, with severe penalties for violations. The legislation was issued by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai.
Hefty Fines and Prison for Violators
Anyone found misusing the emblems faces imprisonment of up to five years, a fine ranging from Dh100,000 to Dh500,000, or both. Authorities stress that misuse includes unauthorized commercial purposes such as advertising or product promotion.
Strict Guidelines on Usage
The law prohibits any actions that distort, demean, or undermine the logos’ status. Additionally, using the emblems in activities or events that contradict Dubai’s values, public order, or morals is strictly forbidden.
Official Usage Only
The Dubai Emirate logo may only appear in places, events, documents, and seals with special permission. Meanwhile, the Dubai Government logo is restricted to government-related buildings, events, documents, applications, and sites.
Guidance for Proper Use
A guide prepared by the General Secretariat of the Executive Council of Dubai will outline appropriate logo usage. Entities must adhere strictly to these rules.
Reporting Violations Required
The law also mandates that individuals who witness violations report them to the relevant authorities. Legal action will be taken against offenders based on these reports.
