The UAE's General Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) has officially approved the technical design for Dubai’s first commercial vertiport. The Dubai International Vertiport (DXV), located near Dubai International Airport, marks a significant milestone in the city’s journey toward launching air taxi services.
Commercial Air Taxis Set to Launch in 2026
The DXV is one of four air taxi hubs being developed by Skyports in collaboration with Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) and Joby Aviation. The facility is expected to begin operations in 2026, offering a futuristic solution to urban transportation in the fast-paced city.
Ensuring Safety and Compliance
The GCAA’s approval ensures the vertiport meets strict aviation safety and infrastructure standards. The review covered critical aspects such as the site’s layout, airspace management, obstacle clearance, and Rescue and Fire Fighting Services (RFFS).
Skyports also presented a robust rescue and firefighting plan, addressing potential risks from both battery and traditional fuel fires. Additionally, the project received necessary security clearances to move forward.
A Glimpse Into the Future of Mobility
Dubai’s vertiport initiative aligns with the city’s vision of becoming a global leader in innovative transportation. With the countdown to 2026 underway, the project is expected to redefine urban travel and reduce road congestion in the city.
