The Dubai government has announced that January 1, 2025, will be a public holiday for public sector employees. This announcement was made by the Human Resources Department, confirming that government offices will close on Wednesday, with regular working hours resuming on Thursday, January 2, 2025.
Exemptions for Essential Services
The holiday does not apply to government departments and institutions with employees working in shifts or roles that involve public service or facility management. These entities will continue operations as usual to ensure uninterrupted service.
UAE-Wide Holiday Confirmation
The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources has also declared January 1, 2025, as a public holiday for both government and private sector employees across the UAE. This marks the first official public holiday of the year, offering residents a day to celebrate the New Year.
Public Holidays in 2025
UAE residents can look forward to a total of 13 public holidays in 2025, as per the UAE Cabinet’s holiday calendar. Notably, the dates for Eid Al Fitr next year will vary slightly from previous years.
Other Emirates Follow Suit
Ajman and Sharjah have also confirmed January 1, 2025, as a New Year holiday for their government employees, aligning with the nationwide announcement.
