A speeding car ran over and killed an Emirati who was working on the side of the road. According to investigations, the accident that occurred on Wednesday in Sharjah's Kalba was caused by the driver falling asleep.

Patrols and paramedics sent the victim to the hospital, according to Colonel Dr. Ali Al Kay Al Hamoudi, director of the Eastern Region Police Department, but the 38-year-old passed away from his injuries.

Prior to driving over the victim, a speeding car collided with a municipal vehicle. According to the police, the Emirati was employed by the Kalba Municipality. He parked his vehicle at Wadi Al Helo as part of his official responsibilities, then took all necessary precautions to exit the car and do his duties.
The driver has been referred by the police to the public prosecution for further legal action.
If a driver feels exhausted, Colonel Dr. Al Hamoudi urged them to pull over and rest in a secure location. He emphasized that tired drivers should not operate a vehicle.
In the UAE, fatigue is a major factor in accidents. According to RoadSafetyUAE, it is "particularly dangerous because one of the symptoms is decreased ability to judge" one's own "level of tiredness".
Authorities have consistently recommended that drivers obtain enough rest before driving their vehicles.
