Former US President Donald Trump has returned to his New Jersey home after being injured in an assassination attempt during a rally in Pennsylvania on Saturday.

As Trump was addressing the crowd, gunshots erupted, causing chaos as Secret Service agents swiftly surrounded the former president.

Trump, who emerged with a bloodied face, revealed he was shot in the ear, describing the incident as hearing a "whizzing sound" and feeling a "bullet ripping through skin."

The FBI has identified 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks as the assailant. Crooks was shot and killed by the Secret Service during the incident. Tragically, one spectator was killed, and two others were critically injured. The victims were adult males.

A witness reported seeing a man with a rifle crawling on a nearby roof moments before the shots were fired.

President Joe Biden condemned the assassination attempt, urging all Americans to denounce such "sick" acts of violence.

Video footage from the rally shows Trump falling to the ground before standing up and raising his fist to the crowd, demonstrating his resilience as the leading Republican presidential contender.
