The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation announced today, Sunday, June 19, 2022, that its subsidiary Nawah Energy Company has started loading nuclear fuel packages in the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant– Unit 3, according to the Emirates News Agency, WAM.
The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation indicated that the process of loading nuclear fuel packages is carried out in accordance with all local regulatory requirements and the highest international standards, after obtaining a license to operate the plant from the Federal Authority for Nuclear Regulation, which confirmed, on its part, that the operating license issued by it on June 17 authorizes “Nawah Energy Company” to operate the third unit of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant for a period of 60 years.
The Authority issued a statement on the occasion of the start of loading nuclear fuel into the third unit of the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant, stating that the period of preparations for commercial operation includes the Nawah Company loading the nuclear fuel packages into the third unit, where the Authority’s inspectors at the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant are supervising the process to ensure its compliance.
The Authority also confirmed that it intends to carry out inspections around the clock through its resident inspectors at the Barakah station, as well as sending other inspectors to ensure the completion of fuel loading operations and tests in accordance with the requirements.
After completing the stage of preparations for the operation, the Authority will assume the supervisory role during the commercial operation of the third unit to ensure the safety of the reactor's operation.
