The Best Christmas Movies to Watch During the Holidays!

Since it's the holiday season and people are watching all kinds of Christmas movies to celebrate the joyful occasion, there are various lists of alternative or unconventional Christmas movies sprouting up across the internet.

Although there is a long selection of non-traditional Christmas movies, Gulf Moments selected four movies and put up a poll to see if netizens really considered these movies suitable for Christmas

Results of the Poll for Alternative Christmas Movies

Here are the results of the poll that was put up by Gulf Moments:

  • 'Die Hard' (1988): 69% of respondents thought that the film was a Christmas movie, while 31% of the respondents didn't think that it was one.
  • 'Edward Scissorhands' (1990): 48% of respondents said this Johnny Depp film was a Christmas movie, while 52% did not think so.
  • 'Batman Returns' (1992): 43% of respondents thought that this Tim Burton film was a Christmas film, while 57% of them voted 'no'.
  • 'Iron Man 3' (2013): The poll responses saw a tie for this film because 50% of the respondents thought it was a Christmas movie, at the same time, 50% of them did not think so.

'Die Hard' (1998)

This action-thriller starring Bruce Willis and Alan Rickman is considered to be a Christmas movie by many because the story begins at Christmas time, when Willis' character arrives in Los Angeles during a Christmas party.

Despite its genre, the film also features popular Christmas songs 'Let it Snow!' and 'Christmas in Hollis'.

These Christmas elements vehemently clash with the film's ultra-violence, however, the film's main theme is the fight between good and evil and how Willis' good guy saves the day by saving a bunch of hostages from a terrorist.

This theme of 'good conquers evil' is what makes netizens consider 'Die Hard' as a Christmas film.

'Edward Scissorhands' (1990)

This fantasy gothic romance film, starring Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder, seems more of a Halloween movie than a Christmas film!

The poll results show that the difference is only by one vote, which suggests that 'Edward Scissorhands' (1990) does qualify for a Christmas movie.

The film features an iconic Christmas scene where Depp's character makes an ice sculpture of Ryder's character and the ice shavings from the sculpture fall like snow in the town where it has never snowed before.

If that is not the epitome of a Christmas miracle, then what is?

'Batman Returns' (1992)

The poll votes for another one of Tim Burton's iconic films are divided by only four votes, which means that 'Batman Returns' can be considered a Christmas film.

The film is set around Christmas time and the story is interwoven with Christmas festivities and songs.

Although these elements contrast the violence in the film, the fight between Gotham City's superhero and villain instils the film with the 'good conquers evil' theme, which is an important element of many Christmas classics.

'Iron Man 3' (2013)

Poll votes were equally divided for this film, which emphasizes that the Marvel film can be taken as a Chrsitmas film.

'Iron Man 3' is set during Christmas and is about a Marvel superhero overtaking a villain.

In addition to that,  the film also features Stark's learning curve with him overcoming his struggles and faults and coming out as a better man for the love of his life.

Christmas might not be about superheroes, but it is definitely about overcoming personal struggles and becoming the best version of yourself and that is what 'Iron Man 3' (2013) is about.

In their way, each of these films depicts various essential elements that make the essence of Christmas, so watching them during the holidays is not a bad idea after all!
