All the Films Running at the Korean Film Festival 2023
Korean fans are in for a treat as the Korean Film Festival returns to Vox Cinemas at Yas Mall on June 8th and the festival will run until June 11th.
Here are the Korean films that will feature in the Korean Film Festival:
Hunt (2022)
The film will be screened on June 8th at 7 p.m. The film is the directorial debut of Squid Game star Lee Jung-jae who also features in the film. Hunt was the fourth highest-grossing South Korean film of 2022.
The film is set in 1983, four years after the real-life assassination of South Korean President Park Chung-hee in 1979 by the Korean Central Intelligence Agency. The fictional narrative follows two senior security officers who are searching for a North Korean mole who has infiltrated their agency.
Mission: Possible (2021)
The film will run on June 9th at 5 p.m. 'Mission: Possible' ranked 11th among all the South Korean films released in 2021, according to the Korean Film Council. The film ranked 1st at the box office during the first week of its release.
'Mission: Possible' is inspired by the Mission: Impossible series and it is an action comedy that follows the story of secret agent Wong Iring and an ex-special agent, present-private detective Woo Soo-han.
The film follows the story from a search for an arm-smuggling ring in South Korea to a classic case of mistaken identity, which makes a fun and thrilling adventure that will leave you in laughing fits.
The Night Owl (2022)
'The Night Owl' will be screened on June 9th at 7 p.m. The film is a period thriller drama that is set in Joseon Dynasty and the story revolves around the mysterious death of Crown Prince Sohyeon.
The film was the 5th highest-grossing film of 2022 in South Korea and received awards for best film, best director, and best actor at the 59th Baeksang Arts Awards.
Pororo and Friends: Virus Busters (2022)
The film will run on June 10th at 3 p.m.
This animated film will be a treat for young children that follows Pororo and his friends after they are turned into squares and Mr Chacha requests help from Dr Eddie for the square virus that is ruining the kingdom.
Confession (2022)
The film will run on June 10th at 5 p.m.
'Confession' is a mystery thriller based on the Spanish film 'The Invisible Guest' and it follows the story of a man accused as the culprit of a locked-room murder and his lawyer's journey to uncover the truth.
The film was part of the Fantasporto - Oporto International Film Festival, in the competition section, where it won the Best Director Award.
Confidential Assignment 2: International (2022)
The film will be screened on June 10th at 7 p.m.
The movie is a sequel to the 2017 'Confidential Assignment' and is an action-comedy that follows two North Korean detectives that hunt down a North Korean crime leader in South Korea.
The film also received accolades at the Blue Dragon Film Awards and Grand Bell Awards.
Fanatic (2021)
The film will run on June 11th at 5 p.m.
'Fanatic' is a documentary about the stories of former fans who follow fallen celebrities. The film was screened at the Busan International Film Festival and Udine Far East Film Festival.
Alienoid Part 1 (2022)
The film will be screened on June 11th at 7 p.m.
The film features The Heirs star Kim Woo Bin and the popular drama Twenty-Five Twenty-One star Kim Tae-ri.
The sci-fi action film focuses on three timelines and follows the chase after an escaped alien in one timeline and the search for the Divine Blade in another timeline.
'Alienoid Part 1' was the ninth highest-grossing film of 2022 in South Korea.
