Commuters between Dubai and Abu Dhabi now have a fresh, cost-effective way to travel. The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced a shared taxi service, allowing passengers to split the fare with others for trips between the two cities. The service is currently in a six-month trial phase.
Convenient Pick-Up and Drop-Off Points
Passengers heading from Dubai can board at the Ibn Battuta Centre, with Al Wahda Centre as the drop-off point in Abu Dhabi. The route is the same in reverse for those starting in Abu Dhabi. The shared taxi service aims to offer a faster and more convenient alternative to traditional bus travel.

Affordable Rates Based on Number of Passengers
RTA has structured the fare to make it affordable based on the number of passengers sharing the ride. For two passengers, the cost is set at AED 132 each. When three people share, each pays AED 88, while a full ride with four passengers will cost just AED 66 per person. This makes it an economical choice for groups looking to travel between the two emirates.
RTA’s Goal: Reducing Traffic and Emissions
This new initiative is part of RTA’s ongoing efforts to cut down on traffic congestion and encourage shared travel. By promoting shared rides, RTA hopes to reduce carbon emissions and limit the demand for unlicensed transport services in the region.
Continuing Your Journey
Once at the drop-off point, passengers can easily continue their journey using other RTA transport options, such as buses or additional taxis, making it simple to reach their final destinations.
