Abu Dhabi will launch mandatory food labelling for certain food products in June 2025.
The food labelling system will be called the Nutri-Mark system and will rank how healthy food is using the alphabet from A to E, with A having the highest nutritional value, while E will have the lowest nutritional value.
Initially, this grading system will be applied to dairy products, oils, beverages, baked goods, and children's foods. The system will eventually include all kinds of foods sold in the emirate.
If food items do not meet the standards or the labelling is incorrect, these items will be removed from the market.
Companies have six months to update the current packaging of existing goods. These labels will be valid for a year and manufacturers importing new products have been asked to apply for new labels.
These food labels are designed to be clear and effective, showing how healthy food is, which will help people make more informed decisions about their diet.
