Abu Dhabi Residents Can Now Get Free Flu Vaccines
Abu Dhabi residents can now receive free flu vaccines as part of the UAE’s annual national influenza campaign, which launched on September 9, 2024. Running until March 2025, the campaign aims to protect the community and is organized in collaboration with Emirates Health Services (EHS), Abu Dhabi Public Health Centre (ADPHC), the Department of Health Abu Dhabi (DoH), and the Dubai Health Authority (DHA).
Under the theme “Immunise Yourself...Protect Your Community,” the campaign emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated to reduce the spread of seasonal flu.

115 Locations Offering Free Flu Vaccines
Dr. Faisal Alahbabi, Acting Executive Director of the Communicable Diseases Sector at ADPHC, shared that the vaccine will be available free of charge to all UAE nationals and residents at over 115 healthcare facilities and licensed pharmacies throughout Abu Dhabi.
For those who face challenges visiting healthcare centers, such as the elderly and people with disabilities, the campaign also offers home delivery of vaccines to ensure maximum community reach. In addition, social media campaigns in multiple languages will help raise awareness.
Affordable Flu Shots for Dubai and Northern Emirates Residents
Residents in Dubai and the Northern Emirates can get the flu vaccine for as low as Dh50, with protection lasting six to seven months. High-risk groups, including pregnant women, children aged six months to five years, individuals with chronic diseases, and People of Determination, can receive the vaccine for free at EHS facilities.
Dr. Shamsa Majid Lootah, Director of the Public Health Department at EHS, emphasized the vaccine’s safety and affordability, stating that it has been used for over 60 years and offers crucial protection for families.
Targeting All Population Segments
The campaign encourages everyone, including citizens, residents, government and private sector employees, and healthcare workers, to get vaccinated. Special attention is given to high-risk groups such as the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with chronic health conditions.
Flu season in the UAE typically begins in October, and while the flu vaccine doesn’t offer complete immunity, it significantly reduces the severity of illness.
Mobile clinics will also visit labor accommodations in Dubai and the Northern Emirates to provide vaccinations and educate workers about the importance of flu prevention.
Expert Advice: Get Vaccinated
Prof. Walid Abuhammour, head of the Infectious Diseases Department at Al Jalila Children’s Hospital, urges all residents aged six months and older to receive the flu vaccine to ensure optimal protection against this highly contagious illness.
“The best investment you can make for yourself and your family is to get the flu vaccine. Even if you don’t have insurance, it’s affordable, and it’s worth it,” he advised.
Stay Protected This Flu Season
With the national influenza campaign now in full swing, UAE residents are encouraged to take action and get vaccinated. Whether you’re in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, or the Northern Emirates, getting a flu shot this season will help protect not only yourself but also the entire community.
