Abu Dhabi Police have issued a strong reminder to motorists about the critical need to stop when a school bus displays its stop sign. The warning comes after concerns about the safety of children crossing the road.
The Law is Clear
According to the police, drivers must stop at least five meters away from a school bus when its stop sign is extended. This rule applies to both directions of the road to ensure children’s safety while they get on or off the bus.
Heavy Penalties for Non-Compliance
Failing to follow this rule could result in a hefty fine of AED 1,000 and the addition of 10 traffic points to the driver’s record. Abu Dhabi Police emphasized that ignoring the stop sign can put children’s lives in danger.
