Abu Dhabi has marked a significant medical achievement with its first-ever simultaneous robotic kidney transplant for both a donor and recipient using a single robotic system. The groundbreaking procedure was conducted on August 21, 2024, at Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, part of the M42 group.
Innovative Procedure Details
In this historic surgery, a donor and recipient, both UAE nationals, were treated in separate operating rooms but with the same robotic system. The advanced robot, equipped with 3D vision, high magnification, and precise movements, allowed for smaller incisions and greater accuracy compared to traditional methods.
Advantages of Robotic Surgery
The use of robotic technology in this procedure provided several benefits, including more precise surgery, reduced blood loss, less trauma, and faster recovery times for the patients.
Future Plans and Collaboration
Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, in collaboration with Cleveland Clinic in the US, is not only celebrating this milestone but also exploring further advancements in medical technology. Future projects include the potential use of robotic systems for liver transplants.
