Abu Dhabi Launches Eco-Friendly Buses on Route 65
Abu Dhabi is taking a big step toward sustainable urban mobility with the conversion of Bus Service No. 65 to an eco-friendly service. Operated entirely by green buses powered by hydrogen and electric energy, this move reflects Abu Dhabi’s commitment to environmental sustainability and leadership in sustainable transport.
A Green Vision for Abu Dhabi’s Public Transport
The transition to eco-friendly buses on Route 65 is part of Abu Dhabi Mobility's larger strategic plan to turn the Island of Abu Dhabi into a Public Transport Green Zone by 2030. This plan is set to achieve decarbonisation by converting 50% of the city's public transport to green alternatives. The result? A reduction of 200 tonnes of carbon emissions every day—roughly equivalent to taking 14,700 cars off the road.
The Impact on Route 65
Bus Service No. 65 is one of the busiest routes on Abu Dhabi Island, connecting Marina Mall to Al Reem Island. With around 6,000 passengers using the route daily and covering more than 2,000 kilometers, the decision to make this service green is a significant move. By operating these buses on hydrogen and electric energy, the initiative not only provides a cleaner alternative for thousands of commuters but also helps reduce Abu Dhabi’s environmental footprint.
Expanding the Green Bus Initiative

Abu Dhabi Mobility plans to expand the use of green buses to additional routes, including Route 160 (connecting Capital Park with Khalifa City) and Route A2 (linking Abu Dhabi City to Zayed International Airport).
