Abu Dhabi and Dubai have once again been recognized as the most liveable cities in the Middle East and Africa, according to the 2024 Global Liveability Index by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

Both cities achieved high scores in health care, safety, and education, solidifying their positions as regional leaders.
Abu Dhabi claimed the top spot, praised for its robust healthcare system and high safety standards. The city ranks first globally on Numbeo’s Safety Index, with an impressive score of 88.2 points, and holds the lowest crime rate with just 11.8 points. Dubai followed closely in second place, making significant strides in the same areas and ranking fifth among the world's safest cities.
The healthcare sector in both cities has seen substantial growth. Dubai Health Authority's latest report reveals that the emirate now hosts 5,020 operational healthcare facilities, with 13,370 licensed doctors. Abu Dhabi boasts 3,323 healthcare facilities, including 67 hospitals and over 1,000 health centers, clinics, and pharmacies. The capital also has 12,922 licensed doctors as of the end of 2022.
In education, Abu Dhabi leads with 459 schools, while Dubai hosts 220 private schools for the 2023-2024 academic year, reflecting their commitment to providing quality education.
Gulf cities dominate the top rankings in the region, with Kuwait City, Doha, and Bahrain securing the 3rd, 4th, and 5th spots, respectively. The Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) continues to attract global talent and investment, driving regional stability and growth.
The EIU’s Global Liveability Index evaluates 173 cities worldwide based on stability, health care, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure, highlighting the continued excellence of Abu Dhabi and Dubai on the global stage.
