Heavy rain was recorded in Abu Dhabi and Dubai after midnight until early Tuesday morning, accompanied by lightning and thunder.
Experts have warned that this is only the 'first wave' of stormy weather set for the day.
Various roads were already flooded because of the rainfall during the morning and flights at Dubai International Airport were delayed.
The airport authorities said, "Due to forecasted heavy thunderstorms in Dubai on 16 and 17 April, operations at Dubai International Airport may be affected."
Schools also switched to remote learning, while government offices adopted remote work for the day.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization shared the following message on Monday night.

The National Centre of Meteorology issued orange and yellow alerts in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, warning that this hazardous weather would last until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, Apr. 17.
The forecasts predict more rainfall, thunder, and hail from morning to evening with winds reaching the speed of 70kph.
The storms are expected to reach their peak on Tuesday, with the harsh weather conditions expected to ease gradually on Wednesday.
Many public parks and beaches are closed on Tuesday because of the terrible weather.
Motorists are advised to avoid driving completely during this weather, unless it is necessary and to practice caution when doing so.
