According to sources, writer Elyse Hollander is working on the script for the sequel.
After Curtis, who played Tess the mother in the first film, kept receiving questions about a possible sequel, the actress shared that she "called [her] friends at Disney and said, ‘It feels like there’s a movie to be made’. ”
The 'Freaky Friday' sequel would also mark Lohan's return to studio filmmaking after she made a comeback with a two-film deal with Netflix, which included the rom-com film 'Falling for Christmas'.
Lohan said about the sequel "Jamie and I are both open to that, so we’re leaving it in the hands that be. We would only make something that people would absolutely adore.”
The first film was based on a 1972 book of the same name, written by Mary Rodgers. The 2003 film was a box-office hit, raking in $160 million globally.
