Nine people tragically lost their lives, and 73 others were rescued after a workers' bus overturned in Sharjah's Khorfakkan region on Sunday evening, Sharjah Police confirmed on Monday. The accident occurred due to brake failure, causing the driver to lose control of the vehicle.

Quick Emergency Response

The incident took place at the Wadi Wishi roundabout, located at the entrance of Khorfakkan. Sharjah Police's operations room received the report on Sunday evening, prompting an immediate response from specialized police teams, civil defense, and national ambulance services.

Brigadier Dr. Ali Al Kay Al Hamoudi, Director of the Eastern Region Police Department, highlighted that all emergency teams arrived swiftly at the scene. They worked in coordination with relevant authorities to rescue 73 passengers, administer first aid, and transport the injured to nearby hospitals for medical care.

The injuries reported ranged from severe to moderate and minor, with medical teams ensuring comprehensive treatment for all survivors.

What Caused the Accident?

According to Brig Al Hamoudi, preliminary investigations revealed that the bus’s brakes had failed, which caused the driver to lose control at the right exit of the Khorfakkan entrance. This resulted in the bus overturning, claiming the lives of nine passengers of Asian and Arab nationalities.
