During the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar, which ran from November 20 to December 18, 18.2 million people traveled on the Doha Metro and Lusail Tram networks, with 17.4 million and 0.8 million people traveling on the former and the latter, respectively, according to Qatar Rail.

This amounts to 600,000 Metro riders per day and 27,000 Tram riders per day.

More than 79,000 trips were made by Doha Metro trains, covering a distance of about 1.5 million kilometers, or two trips to and from the moon. During the competition, passengers traveled more than 200 million kilometers in total, which is 1.4 times the distance to the sun.

In particular, during the first thirteen days of the group stage, which featured four daily matches contested across eight stadiums, metro and tram services saw a significant increase in usage. Doha Metro & Lusail said that during the group rounds of the competition, attendance reached the greatest level in FIFA history.

In addition to transporting fans to fan zones, event sites, and important locations throughout the city, the tram made a noteworthy contribution to provide a safe and dependable travel experience to those who attended up to four matches each day. The Doha Metro trains were among the busiest in the entire globe during this time.

H.E. Dr. Abdullah bin Abdulaziz bin Turki Al Subayeh, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Qatar Rail, said: "This World Cup has undoubtedly been exceptional, the successful hosting of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar represents a historic milestone for the State of Qatar and the Success of this global event will shine a bright light through which the world will see the State of Qatar."

The high demand for the network during the World Cup also resulted in several operating records being broken. On November 24, 2022, the fifth day of the tournament, a new daily subway passenger record was set when 827,135 passengers were safely transported to and from stadiums and other destinations, surpassing the previous record of 333,000 passengers set on National Day of Qatar (QND) were promoted in 2019. (QND) 2022 saw an equally exceptional turnout with a total of 810,000 passengers carried throughout the day.

Msheireb, Lusail QNB and DECC were Doha's busiest metro stations, while Legtaifiya and Lusail Central were the busiest stops on the Lusail tram.

The network's interchange stations, Msheireb, which connect all three metro lines, are used by up to 400,000 passengers daily. Al-Bidda station, where the green and red lines intersect, carried up to 150,000 passengers during the event.
