10-Year Strategy Approved for the Development of the Sports Sector
His Highness, Sheik Mansoor bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairman of the Dubai Sports Council (DSC) gave his approval to the 2023–2033 sports sector development plan at the meeting held on Wednesday.
In addition to promoting the goals of the Dubai Economic Agenda, D33, the 2023-2033 strategy aims to double the sports industry's GDP contribution to Dubai. As part of a 10-year plan to grow the sports industry, Dubai plans to organize 1,000 international training camps and 3,000 local, regional, and international events.

Keeping with the goals of the UAE leadership and the instructions of UAE President His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, who declared 2023 to be the "Year of Sustainability," His Highness emphasized the significance of placing initiatives in place to achieve sustainability in the sports sector.
Sheikh Mansoor said, "The new strategy will contribute to raising Dubai’s profile as a global sporting destination and a hub for attracting talent."
The five pillars of the new strategy are:
- Shaping a new future for sports by developing solutions focused on e-sports, the metaverse and artificial intelligence.
- Establishing an integrated and interconnected digital institutional system that ensures comprehensive governance of the sports sector.
- Raising Dubai’s sustainability as a global sports destination and the contribution of sports to local GDP.
- Making sports accessible to all members of the community.
- Providing a conducive environment for attracting athletes.
"The key objectives of the strategy include raising the contribution of the sports sector to Dubai’s GDP from 2% to 4% annually, organizing 3,000 local, regional, and international events, and hosting 1,000 international training camps. The strategy also aims to increase the percentage of sporting events hosted in partnership with the private sector to 90%,” Sheikh Mansoor added.
In coordination with the Knowledge and Human Development Authority (KHDA) and the Dubai Health Authority(DHA), Sheikh Mansoor issued directions to create incentives for promoting sports. Additionally, a new award will be presented to schools that have taken steps to boost the health and wellness of their children through sports.
