In honour of International Pineapple Day on June 27th, we're showing you the worst, and most bizarre, unusual dishes with pineapple in them. And it doesn't stop just at eating the pineapple, either, as some people went further and served these recipes straight from the source (pineapple shells).

Here is a list of the 10 worst dishes with pineapple:

Liver Sausage Pineapple

This recipe is a liverwurst mixed together with mayonnaise, Worcestershire sauce, and lemon juice, shaped around a jelly mold, and set with gelatine, then the whole thing is covered in pineapple-flavoured icing, studded with stuffed olives, and topped with a pineapple top.

Pineapple Casserole

This pineapple casserole is made of canned pineapple with cheddar and buttered Ritz crackers. Seriously? Seriously. It is usually served alongside Easter brunch, Thanksgiving spreads, or with a platter of Mississippi roast.

Mahi-Mahi With Pineapple Glaze

A mahi-mahi fish coated with pineapple glaze on both sides, and served with coconut rice, grilled peppers, and pineapple slices.

Salsa de piña picante

Salsa de piña picante is a Mexican salsa made with a combination of chopped pineapple, coriander, jalapeños, minced onions, lime and orange juice, salt, and sugar.

Khao op sapparot

Khao op sapparot is a traditional Thai rice dish made with a combination of rice, garlic, ginger, onions, shallots, stir-fry sauce, and pineapple chunks. The dish is often served in a carved pineapple shell and is typically garnished with chopped spring onions.

Hawaiian Pizza

Despite its name, Hawaiian pizza is a Canadian invention, a classic American-style pie topped with cheese, ham or bacon, and pineapple chunks. Sorry to all pineapple-on-pizza fans out there, but this is not how pizza should be eaten.

Toast Hawaii

In a similar way that the Americans have ruined pizza for some by adding pineapple to it, the Germans have also done the same thing to a sandwich.

Toast Hawaii is an open-faced sandwich consisting of a buttered slice of toast that's topped with a slice of ham, a slice of pineapple, and a slice of Gouda or Swiss cheese.

Moorkop

Moorkop is a Dutch dessert consisting of a choux pastry that is filled with whipped cream, glazed with chocolate, and topped with some more whipped cream and pieces of fruit such as pineapple or tangerine.

Pineapple Lumps

Pineapple lumps, also known as pineapple chunks, is actually not a dish, it is a chocolate-covered confectionery product with a soft, chewy pineapple-flavoured middle from New Zealand.

The sweet treats were first made in the 1950s by Charles Diver, a confectionery chef at the Regina Confectionery Company.

Watergate Salad

Watergate salad is an American summertime dessert consisting of a combination of mini marshmallows, pecans, and chunks of pineapple in a base of pistachio pudding. It is especially popular at Thanksgiving dinners and Easter.
