Abu Dhabi's Flying Taxi Launch Is Just Months Away

Flying taxis are officially on their way to Abu Dhabi, with the first test flights set to take off in the coming months. Archer, the US-based eVTOL (electric vertical takeoff and landing) manufacturer, has teamed up with Abu Dhabi Aviation (ADA) to launch its Midnight aircraft in the capital this year. The ambitious goal? To get passengers flying before the end of 2025, slashing long commutes down to just minutes.

When Will Flying Taxis Launch in Abu Dhabi?

Archer and ADA have signed an agreement to introduce a fleet of Midnight aircraft, with test flights scheduled to start soon. If all goes well, the first passenger flights could take off later this year. To prepare for the launch, Archer is collaborating with ADA on pilot training, flight operations, and setting up technical support and booking infrastructure.

How Much Will a Flying Taxi Cost?

Taking to the skies won’t come cheap—at least initially. A trip between Dubai and Abu Dhabi is expected to cost between AED 800 and AED 1,500, while shorter routes within Dubai could start at AED 350. As the service expands, prices might become more accessible.

What Makes Midnight Different?

The Midnight aircraft is designed for short-haul urban travel. It can carry four passengers plus a pilot and is built for rapid back-to-back flights with minimal charging time. By swapping long car journeys for quick flights, Midnight aims to turn a 60-90 minute drive into a 10-30 minute flight.

What’s Next for Flying Taxis in the UAE?

While Archer is leading the charge in Abu Dhabi, Dubai is also making strides in urban air mobility. Joby, another eVTOL manufacturer, plans to launch a similar service in Dubai, with the city’s first vertiport already announced near Dubai International Airport (DXB).

For now, all eyes are on Abu Dhabi as it prepares to take urban transport to new heights—quite literally.
