Abu Dhabi Rolls Out Uber Robotaxis This Weekend

Abu Dhabi just got a major upgrade in its transportation game! Uber's brand-new self-driving cars are officially here, making the capital one of the first cities outside the United States to embrace autonomous ride-hailing.

The service, launched in collaboration with global autonomous driving leader WeRide, offers a futuristic and efficient way to travel between select locations in Abu Dhabi. And yes, it’s happening now - you can book your ride as early as this weekend!

Where Can You Catch A Ride?

For now, Uber's self-driving cars are cruising around:

• Saadiyat Island
• Yas Island (perfect if you're headed to the Abu Dhabi GP!)
• Routes to and from Zayed International Airport

While the service is currently limited to these areas, more locations across the capital will be added soon.

How To Book Your Uber Robotaxi

Booking an autonomous ride is simple:

1. Open the Uber app.
2. Select an UberX or Uber Comfort trip.
3. Choose the autonomous WeRide vehicles option for eligible routes.

During this initial phase, a safety operator will accompany the ride to ensure everything runs smoothly for passengers and pedestrians alike.

What’s Next?

This launch is just the beginning. Phase one focuses on testing and perfecting the service, with a fully commercial rollout of driverless robotaxis expected in 2025.
