Abu Dhabi Residents Must Register Pets Starting Feb 3

Pet owners in Abu Dhabi will soon need to register their microchipped cats and dogs under a new animal ownership service launching on February 3. This new requirement, announced by the Department of Municipalities and Transport (DMT), aims to streamline pet ownership and improve animal welfare across the emirate.

What You Need to Know About Pet Registration

Starting February 3, individual pet owners in Abu Dhabi will have a one-year grace period to complete the registration of their pets without facing penalties. However, businesses or establishments that own cats and dogs will need to complete their registration within six months.

The good news is that registration is free for now. The DMT also clarified that pet owners can easily register their animals at veterinary facilities once the new system goes live on the TAMM portal. For establishments, the service will also allow them to transfer ownership of animals when necessary.

The Key Objectives of the Pet Registration Service

This registration initiative comes with several important goals:

  • Reduce the stray animal population: By ensuring that all pets are properly identified, authorities can help manage the number of abandoned animals.
  • Track pet records: A centralized database will help keep track of each pet’s health and ownership history.
  • Enable proper identification: With microchipping, lost pets can be easily identified and returned to their owners.
  • Improve animal welfare: The system will ensure pets receive necessary care like vaccinations and regular vet visits.

What the Service Will Cover

The new service emphasizes essential aspects of pet health, including annual vaccinations, regular veterinary check-ups, and microchipping. It’s designed to ensure pets are healthy and properly cared for, contributing to a higher standard of animal welfare in Abu Dhabi.

As the launch date approaches, pet owners are encouraged to prepare by visiting local veterinary facilities to register their pets and get familiar with the TAMM portal.

This new initiative marks a significant step towards responsible pet ownership in Abu Dhabi, fostering a safer and more organized environment for animals and their owners alike.
