The clinic has opened in the Abu Dhabi Stem Cells Centre. Although screen addiction is widespread, it is not officially recognized in medical categorisation systems like the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM).
The digital detox programme will help children and families regain control over their screen time by following a six-step system.
The first step involves consultation and assessment to understand the effect of the problem on the child's attention span, memory, and cognitive function.
The second step involves a physical examination to identify the muscle strain caused by screen use.
The third step includes physiotherapy to correct posture-related issues, while the fourth includes psychometric therapy to set digital boundaries and replace digital activities with better alternatives.

The fifth step includes an eye test and an ophthalmology consultation, while the final step includes follow-ups and long-term monitoring to track the child's progress.
If needed, children could also be referred to a psychologist for cognitive behavioural therapy.
