Abu Dhabi’s 90-Day Maternity Leave Begins on September 1

Starting September 1, 2024, Emirati women working in the private sector in Abu Dhabi will benefit from an extended maternity leave of 90 days, as announced by the authorities on Tuesday. This new policy, part of the Emirati Family Growth Support Programme, is aimed at supporting the well-being of Emirati families.

New Maternity Leave Benefits

The extension of maternity leave from 60 to 90 days applies to mothers who give birth on or after September 1, 2024. In addition to the extended leave, Emirati mothers can also apply for financial support that complements their salary during their maternity leave, provided they obtain approval from their private-sector employer.

To qualify for this Maternity Leave Support for Women in the Private Sector Programme, eligible Emirati mothers must apply within the first 30 days of their baby's birth. Applicants need to provide essential documents, including a valid salary certificate, complete bank account details (IBAN), a family book issued in Abu Dhabi, and a no-objection certificate from their employer.

Additional Support for New Mothers

In addition to the extended maternity leave, new Emirati mothers will receive further assistance through the Abu Dhabi Early Childhood Authority’s 'home visit service.' This service is designed to support parents during the critical early weeks of motherhood, helping to ensure the well-being of both the parents and the newborn.

Comprehensive Family Support

Beyond the maternity leave extension, Emirati families will also benefit from a range of initiatives, including marriage loans, loan deductions, and rental assistance. These measures are all part of a broader effort to support Emirati families, providing them with the resources they need to thrive.
