A recent survey by communications agency duke+mir revealed that 97% of UAE residents go out for entertainment at least once a month, with dining being one of the most popular activities. Over 70% of residents eat out weekly, ranging from casual coffee shops to Michelin-starred restaurants, reflecting the nation’s vibrant social culture.

Subscriptions Gain Traction but Leave Room for Waste  

The study also highlighted a surge in paid entertainment subscriptions, with 81% of residents having at least one active subscription. From streaming platforms like Netflix and Amazon to online fitness programs, e-books, and music services, subscription-based entertainment is on the rise in the UAE.

However, 30% of users admit to rarely using their subscriptions and are considering cancellations, potentially wasting millions of dirhams annually.  

Globally, the subscription economy is projected to hit $1.5 trillion by 2025, aligning with the GDP of major economies. This reflects a shift toward a subscription-based lifestyle, with UAE residents embracing the trend enthusiastically.  

Sports and Gaming: A Weekly Habit

Sports and gaming are also integral to entertainment in the UAE:  

- 66% of residents participate in sports weekly, with 75% of young adults aged 18-24 staying active. 

- 73% of young people play video games regularly, and nearly a third of this age group has paid gaming subscriptions.  

Watching sports is another favorite pastime, with 37% of residents enjoying live matches weekly, alongside 24% who frequent cinemas and 23% attending live performances.  

Balancing Work and Play

The findings reflect the UAE's strong "work hard, play hard" culture, where residents prioritize work-life balance through frequent outings and recreational activities. As the nation continues to grow its entertainment offerings, residents are finding more ways to relax and recharge amidst their fast-paced lives.  

This survey provides a snapshot of how UAE residents are shaping their lives around leisure, dining, and digital entertainment, making the most of what the country offers.
