29,000 Taxis to Operate Amid Dubai’s NYE Road Closures

Dubai is gearing up for one of the most spectacular New Year's Eve celebrations in the world. With dazzling fireworks, light shows, and live events planned across the emirate, the city has laid out a comprehensive action plan to ensure the safety and smooth running of the festivities. Here's everything you need to know about Dubai's New Year's Eve plan.

Major Security and Safety Measures

On Tuesday, Dubai authorities revealed that more than 10,000 emergency service workers will be deployed to support the celebrations. This includes 8,500 police officers, 1,100 firefighters, and 600 first responders stationed at over 44 firework displays and live shows across the city. The focus will be on ensuring the safety of the large crowds expected to gather, especially in Downtown Dubai, where the iconic Burj Khalifa fireworks will take center stage.

Key routes in Downtown Dubai will be sealed off well before midnight to manage the crowd and ensure everything goes smoothly. Public safety is a top priority, with 1,145 police patrols—including those on bicycles, motorcycles, and boats—strategically positioned across the city. In addition, 33 lost property tents will be set up at major event locations for anyone who might need them.

Public Transport and Road Closures

With large crowds expected, public transport will play a crucial role. Dubai's public transport plan includes deploying 29,600 taxis and limousines to meet high demand. Additional buses will be assigned to high-traffic areas, and operations rooms will monitor public transport and traffic signals to keep everything running smoothly.

However, there will be road closures in key areas, particularly around the Burj Khalifa and Dubai Mall. The Burj Khalifa Dubai Mall Metro station will be closed from 5 pm, or earlier if capacity limits are reached. Smart traffic screens will also broadcast helpful messages, guiding the public toward event areas while avoiding congestion.

Extensive Fire and Rescue Efforts

Dubai’s fire and rescue services are on high alert, with 1,097 firefighters stationed at 36 event sites across the city. Brig Ali Hassan Al Mutawa, assistant director general for fire and rescue at Dubai Civil Defence, assured the public that his team has conducted thorough inspections of 257 facilities to ensure they meet safety standards.

Ambulance and First Response Services

The Dubai Corporation for Ambulance Services is also going above and beyond to ensure the well-being of attendees. With 224 ambulance points and 593 first responders deployed across the emirate, including 5 ambulance boats, the service is ready for any emergencies. 137 basic points and 52 resupply stations will also be set up for swift assistance. Volunteers trained in emergency medical services will be on hand, adding to the city's preparedness.

Public Cooperation

Maj Gen Khalil Al Mansouri, assistant commander-in-chief for criminal investigation at Dubai Police, stressed the importance of public cooperation during this high-profile event. "We urge people to cooperate with us and report anything unusual, such as a car in an inappropriate location or people behaving oddly. This is a shared responsibility, and your help ensures that everyone enjoys the celebration in a positive atmosphere."

Dubai is determined to make this New Year's Eve the safest and most enjoyable for everyone involved. With top-notch security measures, extensive public transport options, and comprehensive emergency services, the city is ready to ring in 2025 in style.

Stay safe, and enjoy the festivities!
